Institute Presents Panel at Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Equity Summit

The Institute presented a panel discussion, “Integrative Health – Integral to Health Equity,” at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Equity Summit in August 2011. Organized by the Institute for the Advancement of Minority & Multicultural Medicine, the summit corresponded with the unveiling of the MLK Jr. National Memorial in Washington, DC.

The panel discussion defined integrative health and examined the integration of mind, body, and spirit into the African American cultural understanding of health. Placing traditional African American folk healing within the larger context of health, presenters highlighted several current integrative medicine initiatives that address health disparities in both direct patient care and health professional education.
